Devendra Banhart

with Rio En Medio

Note: Show moved to the Granada.Despite the music media's insistence that he's the savior of "freak folk," Devendra Banhart is actually an old-fashioned troubadour who feasts on calypso, Latin, Tropicalia and other South American flavors and happens to possess a distinctive warbly high-register voice. His early recordings were often scattershot, testing listeners' patience with minimalist guitar compositions, but his recent efforts have incorporated multiple players while preserving the singular weirdness that made him a critical darling in the first place. Banhart's fifth LP "Smoky Rolls Down Thunder Mountain" is due Sept. 25 on XL Recordings.
