Description: Lawrence textile artist Kristin Morland adapts the Haitian art form of Drapo to suit her own whims, sewing sequins and beads onto fabric to create 2D images that mimic paintings. Her work aims "to show the beauty in driving by a seemingly endless field of wheat, the calming blue of the Caribbean, or the fleeting light of the sun setting in the city" via abstract expressions of everyday perceptions. Most pieces require a minimum of 20 hours and some have required more than 200. Each piece is framed by Kristin's husband Timothy, using pine, poplar or oak, depending on the colors of the piece.
