Description: In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Murphy Hall, KU alumni William Lane and Bill Booth will teach a master class and perform at a recital on Monday, April 7, 2008. The recital begins at 6:00 p.m. in Swarthout Recital Hall and is free and open to the public.
About the artists:
Bill Booth, adjunct associate professor in trombone at UCLA, has over 20 years experience in the Los Angeles music industry, and is a veteran performer with experience in most aspects of the music business. His recording credits include over five hundred motion pictures, numerous recordings, television shows and jingles. He is principal trombone in the Los Angeles Opera Company, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, and the Pasadena Symphony. Bill frequently appears as principal trombone with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and has performed hundreds of times as principal with the major ballet companies of the world in Los Angeles.
A native of Sedalia, Missouri, Bill holds a BME from the University of Kansas, a MM from Catholic University and an MBA from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Bill's motion picture soundtrack credits include: Titanic, Jurassic Park (I, II, & III), Sum of All Fears, Panic Room, Triple X, Stuart Little (I & II), Signs, Road to Perdition, Scooby-Doo, Master of Disguise, Minority Report, Blade (I & II), Treasure Planet, Scorpion King, and Ice Age.
William Lane has been Principal horn for the Los Angeles Philharmonic since 1973. His many solo performances with the orchestra include appearances at Hollywood Bowl and Music Center subscription concerts. In addition, Lane has been featured in concerts on the Los Angeles Philharmonic Chamber Music Society series.
The Missouri-born musician began playing the horn when he was ten but received no formal instruction until he entered the University of Kansas. Lane graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music, where his principal teacher was James Stagliano. He subsequently played solo horn for the Buffalo Philharmonic for six years prior to coming to Los Angeles. While living in the East, he appeared as soloist with the Boston Symphony.
