Description: This Portland band takes a bit of a kitchen sink approach to its songwriting. Last year's "Wild Mountain Nation" ran the gamut from '60s southern rock to alt country and Pavement-style college rock. Like Beck in their ability to shapeshift, Blitzen Trapper sounds accomplished whether its members take on a slide guitar, a jaw harp or sweet vocal harmonies.

Fellow Sub Pop act Fleet Foxes grew up with '60s Boomer music, and the hints of Jefferson Starship, Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell come through in flashes in the Foxes' music, yet these Seattle(ites?) definitely have a flair for the dramatic. Incorporating multi-part vocal harmonies, mandolins, dulcimers and kotos into their baroque folk pop, Fleet Foxes are likely making those parents proud.

Lawrence's ever-changing The Dactyls are prepping a 7" of their promising, fuzzed-out, multi-vocal guitar rock.
