Description: Gone are the days when the schoolyard bully was always a boy! Now the bully might wear glitter nail polish and model the latest clothes. Today's girls can often be on both the giving and receiving ends of school bullying.
To help explore this challenge, Lawrence Community Theatre, in partnership with the GaDuGi SafeCenter, will offer a special program on April 19 from 1PM until 3PM. Entitled "Brave New Girls Special Edition: Friendship and Bullying," the program is being offered to girls currently enrolled in grades 4 through 6.
Girls will use skits and theatre games to explore friendship and what makes a good friend, language and how words can hurt, and discuss situations involving bullying. Group discussions will be guided by teachers from the Theatre and GaDuGi, as well as by high school mentors from the cast of "The Secret Life of Girls" produced last fall by GaDuGi SafeCenter and the Lawrence Arts Center.
Pre-enrollment is requested by calling the Theatre at 785 843-7469. Fee for the afternoon is $10 and generous scholarship help is available.
Call the Theatre Office at 785 THE-SHOW (843-7469) to enroll.
