Description: L.A. trio BRMC kick started their career with a heavy debt to The Jesus and Mary Chain but have since evolved to incorporate more blues and traditional folk flavors (particularly on 2005's "Howl"). The group's fourth major label effort "Baby 81" hit the streets in May with plenty of effects-addled guitars and darkly nuanced psychedelic rock tunes tailored for smoke-machine-and-strobe-light bliss.
Vocal duties are shared by Robert Levon Been and Peter Hayes, Hayes having been a former member of the ill-fated yet similarly psych-influenced Brian Jonestown Massacre. BMRC has proven itself to be longer-lived, having dropped three albums in four years. Trivia knowledge required for any serious BRMC: The band is named for Brando's motorcycle gang in The Wild One.
