Description: Three Mardi Gras ago, Mike West and Katie Euliss (a.k.a. Truckstop Honeymoon) were still picking up the scattered pieces of their life after losing nearly everything in Hurricane Katrina and moving to Lawrence. Like true vaudevillian entertainers, the group played on, transporting the rich character of Ninth Ward nightlife to local venues like the Gaslight Tavern. They'll go a step further this afternoon when they head up an informal Fat Tuesday Marching Band Parade on the sidewalks of downtown Lawrence. The first ever Lawrence Mardi Gras Krewe will spread its festive joy throughout the downtown during the lunch hour with horns, banjos, fiddles, marching percussion, and fun-trick-noisemakers. Participation is encouraged: bring masks and something to bang on or rattle! Steppin' starts on the south end of Mass. (at Aimee's Coffee House and ends at Free State.
