Description: The Watkins Community Museum will host a day of games, crafts and family activities for all ages on Saturday, January 12, from 10:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Story time will delight youth while adults enjoy a discussion of the exhibit photos. Visitors of all ages can make their own stick horse and western vest and participate in simulated rodeo games like barrel races, pig herding, calf roping and relay games. A special family gallery activity guide will be available for self-guided tours of the exhibition. The event is free and open to the public. Visitors are encouraged to wear western attire. The schedule for the day’s events is as follows:
10:30 Snacks, crafts and family self-guided tours begin
11:30 Story time for youth
11:30 Photo interpretation activity for adults
12:30 Rodeo games begin
2:00 Event ends
COWGIRLS: Contemporary Portraits of the American West is open until January 19, 2008 at Watkins Community Museum of History in Lawrence, KS. Toured by ExhibitsUSA, a national program of Mid-America Arts Alliance, this exhibition reveals the complex, unglamorous–yet often inspiring–reality of women in the modern west.
