Connie Dover, Forest Green, Maria & Megan and Pipers of the Plains present Lawrence's 12th annual celebration of Scottish music and culture. This long-running coalition of local musicians and Scots enthusiasts gathers each year on the last Sunday in January (near Robert Burns' birthday) to celebrate their heritage.Festival in the Foyer - Traditional Scottish (5:30 to 7:00 PM)The festival portion starts at 5:30 with a traditional Celtic jam session by some of the best traditional players in the area. Info booths including the Clan Heritage booth and the Scottish Games booth will be open. At 6:00 there will be a brief opening ceremony, followed by the unveiling of traditional Scottish treats. Bagpipers from Topeka's Pipers of the Plains will also perform.Concert in the Hall - Contemporary Scottish (7:00 to 9:30 PM)The concert portion features a contemporary approach to Scottish music as performed by Maria & Megan (of the band Uncle Dirtytoes) and folk singer Forest Green. The concert will include originals, songs by Robert Burns, traditional Scottish tunes and covers of contemporary Scottish artists like Dougie MacLean, Andy Stewart and Peter Maxwell Davies.Advance discount tickets ($12) are now available at Brits and Mass Street Music.
