Description: Kallipalooza III is a continuation of a benefit started in 2006 for Lawrence resident Kalli Sanders, who faced a lengthy and life-threatening medical crisis that lasted for more than a year. Kalli vowed that if she survived the battle with her illness (Pancreatitis), she would repeat the event in the future to assist others in similar situations. This year, Health Care Access has chosen a single mother facing chronic heart and lung problems as the beneficiary. She has worked for a local fast food restaurant for 18 years, has no health insurance, and is in need of assistance with household expenses.
Returning to play this year are country-punk townies The Lonesome Houndogs and bluegrass boogans WiseAcres. Admission is $10, with all proceeds going directly to the beneficiary. The silent auction will start at 6pm.
From Kalli: "I continue to be healthy and committed to raising money for others in similar situations. I am so grateful to the wonderful members of the Lawrence community who have opened up their hearts to helping others. I now have a beautiful and miraculous baby named Grace, the support of countless friends and family, and I think that marking my birthday each July with this event is the best possible way to celebrate life. Thank you for being a part of this year's event. It is with deepest gratitude to the community of Lawrence that I am working on this project, and I truly appreciate your willingness to be a part of it."
