Tuesday Night Film for Action Series: "Protectors of the Red People"
When: Tuesday, June 10, 2008, 8 p.m.
Where: Solidarity! Revolutionary Center & Radical Library, 1109 Mass. St., Lawrence
Cost: Free
Age limit: All ages
Description: In April 2008 Longview Farms, a factory farm business, started
construction of a large hog farm outside of Ihanktonwan (Yankton Souix)
land in South Dakota. Resistance from the tribe immediately followed.
Dozens of native organizers were arrested and at least one injured during
resistance against the proposed hog farm. A delegation of Indigenous
community organizers from Lawrence traveled to document the
struggle. This is the product of their work.
Chris Ross, local organizer and filmmaker will be on hand to handle
questions, discussion, and help people plug into the movement to stop the
Longview Farms project.
