Description: From Lawrence Community Theater: There's no business like show business in Irving Berlin's classic musical, "Annie Get Your Gun."
The story plays out in a show-within-a show context of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. Frank Butler is the cham-peen sharpshooter of the world . . . until he meets country girl Annie Oakley, who beats him in a shooting contest in Cincinnati. Charlie Davenport, manager of the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show, and Buffalo Bill himself know a moneymaker when they see one, and convince Annie to join the show.
But trouble develops when Frank becomes jealous of Annie horning in on his act as the top draw in the show. Things get more complicated when Annie and Frank start falling in love. With the Buffalo Bill show in financial trouble and Frank running off to the rival Pawnee Bill show, Annie must figure out how to resolve her feelings for Frank and her desire to be the best to save the show.
Many of Irving Berlin's greatest songs are featured in the show, including "Anything You Can Do," "They Say It's Wonderful," "I Got the Sun in the Morning and the Moon at Night," "Doin' What Comes Natur'lly," and of course, "There's No Business Like Show Business."
"Annie Get Your Gun" features Maggie Gremminger as Annie Oakley, Jim Tuchscherer as Frank Butler, Bob Newton as Charlie Davenport, Charles Whitman as Buffalo Bill, and Gene Figuieras as Dolly Tate. Kendra Verhage plays Winnie Tate, Quinn Wasson is Tommy Keeler, Dean Bevan plays Chief Sitting Bull, John Mosher is Pawnee Bill, and Doug Wasson is Foster Wilson. Annie's younger sisters are played by Atlee Myers, Elizabeth Schmidtberger, and Maggie Carttar. Alfred Lata, Jason Abramowitz, Max Wick, David Butterfield, Carrie Burkhead, Melanie Parker, Kelsey Storm Johnson, and Alice Willems round out the cast.
The show is under the direction of Charles Goolsby with music direction by Judy Heller and choreography by Barbara Wasson. Set design is by Jack Riegle, lighting design by Ron Chinn and costume design by Cynthia Evans, and assistant director, Alicia Ellingson. Musicians will include Addison Frei, Dee Blaser, Janice Griffin and Valance Penn.
