Description: THE COVER OF LIFE, a drama by R. T. Robinson will open Thurs, Feb. 28 at Lawrence Community Theatre, 1501 New hampshire. The play is set in rural Louisiana in 1943 during World War II. The three Cliffert brothers have gone off to war, while their brides have moved in with their mother-in-law. When Life Magazine picks up the down-home story, the magazine sends a snappy New York writer on assignment.
Reporter Kate Miller has been covering the war in Europe and has little desire to do a "woman's piece." The lure of a potential cover story however brings her to the Cliffert home, where she prepares to spend a week with the women. As the week proceeds her attitude changes and the audience sees the struggle of women in a man's world and the universal struggle for self-worth. While serious in nature, the show is also filled with charm and fun.
Peggy Sampson takes the role of the reporter, Kate Miller, while Darcy Schild has the role of mother-in-law, Aunt Ola. The three brides are played by Laura Rose Clawson, Sarah May Shaffer and Amber Dickinson. Mary Sean Ratzlaff plays local reporter,Addie Mae, and Jason Gibson takes the role of Tommy. The show is under the direction of Piet Knetsch. Assistant director/stage manager is Mary Ann Saunders. Jack Riegle is designing the set, Mary Jane Mingus the costumes and John Mitchell the lighting.
THE COVER OF LIFE will run Feb. 28, 29, Mar. 1, 2, and 6, 7, 8, 9. Thurs. performances are at 7:30PM, Fri. and Sat. at 8PM and Sun. matinees at 2:30PM. Tickets may be reserved by calling the box office at 785 843-7469 or visiting the website www.theatrelawrence.com.
