The Whigs are a fresh-faced trio that recently graduated college and impressed ATO Records (home to Gomez, Mike Doughty and My Morning Jacket) with their indefatigable performances. The group plays it pretty straight ahead with concise rock tunes built for guitar, bass and big ol' drums. They recorded their new album "Mission Control" at an empty University of Georgia frat house, which is not to say its frat-tastic, but rather delightfully drunk with fraternal hooks. Tour mates The Spinto Band are equally ebullient performers with tunes ranging from twitchy indie rock to kooky bedroom pop.
