Description: Social Registry is a New York City-based indie label that has been bold enough to help make the world more aware of the phenomena of people in this part of the world rocking by releasing albums from Blood on the Wall and T.K. Webb as well as future titles by Bandit Teeth. On these two showcase nights (March 9 and 10) some of the label's Texas-bound artists will entertain.
The lineup includes some local boys, as well as a couple of acts that—were it not for SXSW—would probably not make it to Lawrence.
Sharing members with Blood on the Wall, Bandit Teeth shares the similar strong influences of early '90s college rock, evident in the labored vocals laid over strong (albeit distorted) melodic hooks in the vein of Pavement or Guided by Voices.
In from the UK are the Sian Alice Group, who on their first LP, "59.59" have created a dense, pretty, atmospheric style around its female vocals which crescendo into builds the sort of Mogwai or Sigur Ros.
Also featured tonight is Mike Bones (a.k.a. Mike Strallow) who has made a name for himself in New York as a master of guitar. On his 2007 debut album, "The Sky Behind the Sea," Strallow adds to his already intricate guitar work by adding in his Leonard Cohen-inspired voice.
