Description: With its four members spread across the country—living in Cleveland, Brooklyn, Rochester, and D.C.—the time that Aloha spends together must be something special. Their "Light Works" EP was released in January—more of their mellow, enjoyable rock akin to Nada Surf or Death Cab for Cutie.
Chicago's Anathallo are on the experimental end of the pop spectrum—subdued, complex vocal harmonies play in front of a wide array of instrumentation: pianos, horns, all manner of percussion, the sound of air escaping balloons, etc. The crescendos, shifting time signatures, and attention to detail are comparable to Sufjan Stevens.
