Langhorne Slim / The Builders & the Butchers / Tiny Tuxedo (early all-ages patio show)
When: Saturday, May 24, 6 p.m.
Where: The Replay Lounge, 946 Mass., Lawrence
Cost: $5
Age limit: All ages
Categories: Blues, Folk, Singer/songwriter
Description: Langhorne Slim is a Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter with an eclectic catalog spanning busker folk and old-school blues. He's captivating enough with voice and acoustic guitar, but he goes the extra mile and shares the gas bill with an upright-bass-and-drums duo dubbed the War Eagles.
The Builders and the Butchers are a barnstorming group of folkies who stomp so hard they just might bring down the rafters. Presenting a distinctly Gringo take on El Día de los Muertos themes, the group purveys jolly Ninth Ward folk tunes with macabre lyrics and street-performer instrumentation (pieces of which they've been known to pass out to audience members). Comparisons to the Decemberists are inevitable since they kick it Portland-style, but these West Coasters are a bit more ragged around the edges.
