Nightwish / Sonic Syndicate

Finnish heavy metal music is a style sorely underrepresented in the Lawrence club scene-but tonight veteran quintet Nightwish (from the town of Kitee, Finland) BRINGS IT. Tuomas Holopainen, keyboardist and writer of most of the band's crushing symphonic brutality, has claimed to be mainly inspired by film scores-which is probably why the band landed its 2004 single, "Wish I Had an Angel," on three U.S. film soundtracks. Last May, Anette Olzen replaced Nightwish's longtime singer Tarja Turunen, leading to the recording of "Dark Passion Play," her debut album with the band.
