Jana Mackey's 1,100 Torches National Campaign Benefit

with The Michael Hamm Jazz Quartet and YucaRoots

Granada

Inspired by the life of advocate and activist Jana Mackey, and motivated into action by her recent death, 1,100 Torches was created to inspire people to make a difference in the world. Ultimately, the campaign's purpose is to document 1100 people and their stories of service by linking advocates to causes and promoting a network for inspiration and support. The Michael Hamm jazz quartet will kick off the evening alongside a silent auction, and local reggae faves YucaRoots will play a set later in the evening. The parents of Jana Mackey will speak about the campaign's mission and goals. Several advocacy organizations will be available to assist attendees in finding their own cause.Visit 1100torches.org for more information about Jana, people inspired by her, and this benefit event and campaign.Eleven Hundred TorchesP.O. That could be a line from any evening newscast, lead in your town's paper, or favorite blog. Instead it summarizes one of the more shocking murders to hit the feminist community. By the age of 25 Jana had helped organize buses for the 2004 March for Women's Lives, had been a lobbyist in the Kansas state legislature and started law school. Her goal was to be a legal advocate for women who found themselves in violent situations. She packed a lot in her short life.------------------------------rickyvermont drug rehab
