Since its inception in 1999, Koufax has largely been the brainchild of songwriter Rob Suchan with help from a revolving cast of ringers. Like his band's namesake (Sandy Koufax), Suchan brings the heat with poppy yet offbeat songs that cover a wide spectrum of musical influences from Roxy Music to Elvis Costello to Joe Jackson. After relocating to Lawrence in 2004 to make "Hard Times Are in Fashion" with the former Get Up Kids rhythm section, Suchan spent some time in the Czech Republic. He landed in Lawrence once again to make Koufax's fourth LP "Strugglers" with support from locals John Anderson (drums), Nathan Harold (bass), Dustin Kinsey (keys, guitars) and Ryan Lallier (guitar). That lineup will celebrate the release of "Strugglers" Friday night at the Czar Bar in Kansas City and Saturday night at the Jackpot Saloon in Lawrence.
