Meet at U.S. Bank, 9th and MassachusettsFrom the organizers: We are calling for all people who are angry, frustrated, saddened, or furious about the $700 billion economic bailout plan that was signed into law last Friday to make their anger public and well known.Across the country, demonstrations and actions have been gaining momentum. Last week, hundreds protested outside of the New York Stock Exchange with signs and banners reading "Jump!" and "They All Must Go!"The economic situation in the United States is bleak, and there is little to no reason to believe that the plan that became law last week will be beneficial in any way. The same people responsible for the economic situation are the same people that are now being rewarded with billions of dollars by the U.S. government. This measure received considerable support by members of both parties, including both Barack Obama and John McCain. Nearly all of those that supported the measure receive large monetary donations from banking and financial firms that are directly benefiting from the deal. Goldman-Sachs, CitiGroup, JP Morgan, and other such firms are the leading backers of both presidential candidates and most of our elected officials. Is it any wonder the bailout package succeeded? As the economic situation worsens and the election approaches, it becomes more critical of us to make the same demand:No more support for Wall Street! No more political puppets of the banks! They all must go!See ya on Friday! Help spread the word. Bring pots and pans, noisemakers, banners, signs, and your anger. This will hopefully become the first of many such demonstrations in Lawrence.
