Koufax + "SEX: AKA Weiners and Boobs"

"Strugglers" CD release

A performance of the locally produced play "SEX: AKA Weiners and Boobs" at 10pm followed by Koufax at 12pm...Since its inception in 1999, Koufax has largely been the brainchild of songwriter Rob Suchan with help from a revolving cast of ringers. Like his band's namesake (Sandy Koufax), Suchan brings the heat with poppy yet offbeat songs that cover a wide spectrum of musical influences from Roxy Music to Elvis Costello to Joe Jackson. After relocating to Lawrence in 2004 to make "Hard Times Are in Fashion" with the former Get Up Kids rhythm section, Suchan spent some time in the Czech Republic. He landed in Lawrence once again to make Koufax's fourth LP "Strugglers" with support from locals John Anderson (drums), Nathan Harold (bass), Dustin Kinsey (keys, guitars) and Ryan Lallier (guitar). That lineup will celebrate the release of "Strugglers" Friday night at the Czar Bar in Kansas City and Saturday night at the Jackpot Saloon in Lawrence.Written by members of the dearly departed sketch comedy institution The State and performed by Lawrence's Card Table Theater, "SEX a.k.a. Wieners and Boobs" is a gloriously childish exercise in theatrical absurdity.Per Card Table Theater:"Jack Greenberg is the new sheriff of Teaneck, New Jersey. Unfortunately, the corrupt town is run by Tad Theaterman, a crime boss armed with henchmen and a legion of hookers and gigolos. The Mayor and townsfolk fear Tad, but love the money the sinful brothels bring in! When Jack meets Hillary, a recent divorcee, it's love at first sight, but there's a showdown that's closin' in on our hero! Will Jack save Teaneck, get the girl, and defeat Tad? Or will the wieners and boobs prevail?!"Koufax "Why Bother At All?"
