Throughout his many incarnations as Palace, Palace Brothers, Palace Music, Arise Therefore, and Bonnie Prince Billy, Will Oldham has remained a consistently intriguing - if not always consistent - songwriter. His croaky voice is still likely what draws people in, paired with old-soul lyrics that range from the poignant to the just plain weird. His recent recordings have sported a spit-polish rarely heard in his erratic early recordings; his latest LP "Beware" is described by Domino Records as a grandiose affair where "fiddle and steel contribute their rustic timbre." With Oldham's backing band sounding as sharp as it ever has, ol' Bonnie is aging like a fine wine or wheel of cheese.
