Like William Elliott Whitmore or Iron & Wine, The Cave Singers conjure up an olden-day vibe with sparse, blues-influenced guitar picking and chant-like singing. Vocalist Pete Quirk and guitarist Derek Fudesco both abandoned their noisier projects (Hint Hint and Pretty Girls Make Graves, respectively) for the solitude of a folky sound more reminiscent of Townes Van Zandt or Bruce Springsteen's "Nebraska" album. Signed to Matador Records for their 2007 release "Invitation Songs," the group will release a second album later this year and will likely be debuting tunes from it tonight.
