79th annual Christmas Candlelight Vespers

Baker University will present the 79th annual Christmas Candlelight Vespers at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at First United Methodist Church, Eighth and Grove.

The event will include performances by the Baker music department's choirs, brass ensemble, orchestra, percussion ensemble and flute ensemble.

Musical selections include "Bogoroditse Devo" by Sergei Rachmaninoff; "Before the Marvel of This Night" by Carl Schalk; "Noel" arr. Brad Holmes; "Jesus Christ the Apple Tree" by Elizabeth Poston; "There is No Rose" by Z. Randall Stroope; and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," performed by Baker student Rachel Kilian's bluegrass group.

Matthew Potterton, assistant professor of music, is the university's new music director of choral activities and will conduct the orchestra. He will sing "O Holy Night" as the orchestra performs. Marci Ziegler, instructor of music, will perform "Gesu Bambino" with the orchestra.

Other conductors for Vespers will be Lori McKinney (orchestra), Ray James (brass ensemble), J.D. Parr (flute ensemble) and Nanette Kraus (accompanist).
