Galactic delivers forward-thinking funk with a sound defined by ass-burning grooves and first-call musicianship. The New Orleans band's sixth album "From the Corner to the Block" features a cherry-picked list of some of hip-hop’s most dynamic lyricists: Juvenile, Gift of Gab, Lyrics Born, Mr. Lif, Chali 2na, and Boots Riley to name a few. Despite such cameos, "From the Corner" isn't a typical hip-hop album per se, but more of a contemporary funk record that also pays tribute to seminal funksters like Maceo Parker and The Meters.The Mighty Underdogs are a newly formed trio of hip-hop heavyweights from the West Coast: Blackalicious’s Gift of Gab, Lateef the Truth Speaker and Bay Area producer Headnodic. Definitive Jux Records picked up the Underdogs debut LP "Droppin' Science Fiction."
