The League of Women Voters of Lawrence/Douglas County invites you to join them for the second League Issues Meeting, “Ex-Offender Reentry into the Community.”
Open to the public! A continental breakfast will be provided at 10:00AM. The program kicks off at 10:30.
The LWVK supports "a humane program of corrections for offenders. Such a
program would integrate offenders back into society as productive and successful citizens, thus protecting the total community."
So, how does the Douglas County Jail approach integrating ex-offenders back into the community? The answer is a new “Transition from Jail to Community (TJC) Project.”
The Project Coordinator, Shannon Murphy, will outline the elements of the TJC Project at the LWV meeting on February 28th. She will: 1) identify the most immediate and basic needs of prisoners leaving prison and 2) suggest ways to address them. The goal of the Project is for ex-offenders to be accountable, self-sufficient and law-abiding citizens. Shannon is a new member of the LWV-L/DC.
