Comfort the Children Fundraiser and Community Conversation

Milton's

From the organizers: Come support Comfort the Children International, a Lawrence-born nonprofit, as it hosts its first Lawrence fundraiser! For a $25 suggested donation at the door, enjoy a silent auction, food, drink, conversation, and learning more about this great organization and the extent to which Kansas is really connected to Kenya. The event is graciously being hosted by Milton's, located in downtown Lawrence at 920 Massachusetts Street, from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm.

CTC was founded in 2003 by a Kansas University graduate with the aim of making a small but powerful difference in the community of Maai Mahiu, just outside of Nairobi in Kenya. From the start, Comfort the Children did not preclude volunteers based on their religious beliefs; the organization invites people of all walks of faith to join in on the journey of service. From that standpoint in its first year of existence, CTC’s only goal was to build a classroom for a local orphanage; two were built.

Six years later, and CTC is not only still around but is growing rapidly. The first year revealed what CTC was capable of doing. In this past year alone CTC hosted teams of volunteers from around the globe whose commitments built classrooms, created online connections between schools, provided over 750 patients with medical care and pharmaceuticals, developed nutritional menus for orphanages, and built a daycare center for developmentally disabled youth in Maai Mahiu, just to name a few accomplishments.

But this is just the beginning.

By providing hope through relationships, CTC is empowering our world. We share in the lives of local communities through building mutual understanding and sustainable change. Our education programs, economic projects, health care, community development and environmental awareness are creating a better tomorrow.
