Lawrence's Calamity Cubes perform with acoustic guitar, banjo, and upright bass. They'd be hard-pressed to call themselves a bluegrass band, instead preferring to identify as a bunch of songwriters who happened to learn bluegrass instruments (i.e. acts like the Avett Brothers and Old Crow Medicine Show). After a short run in Wichita, the Cubes relocated to Lawrence to play the downtown circuit. They've been running at the speed of a steam train ever since, and they recently celebrated the release of their second album "Long Cold Winter."
Tater Famine is a three-piece acoustic band from Santa Cruz, Cal. who don't like to be called folk-punk, country-punk, or acousti-punk. They prefer "rock."
