Singer/songwriter Ari Hest had it made: a major-label deal, lucrative song placements, and successful tours of crowded clubs. But he decided to opt out of his deal for the sake of his artistic independence, embarking on a project during which he recorded a song every week for a year. He asked his fans to choose their favorites, resulting in his eclectic new album "Twelve Mondays." The tunefully mellow tone of the album shows the influence of Sting and Paul Simon.
