Laura Veirs composed her new album "July Flame" mostly in odd tunings on her “crappy nylon-string guitar” (though her Les Paul electric guitar, banjo, and piano also figured in) in the barn behind her house in Portland, Ore. The album is a relatively stripped-down folk record highlighting Veirs’ masterful finger picking guitar and confident vocals.
