The spirit of competition will be in the air this Sunday. In Miami, the New Orleans Saints will take on the Indianapolis Colts; on the airwaves, advertisers will battle for best commercial; and at Liberty Hall in Lawrence, great minds will compete to see who knows the most about the world around us.
Before heading off to Super Bowl parties, the public is invited to flex their minds and attend International Trivia at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, at Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St. Teams of four to five people may compete on a team, or individuals can sign up to be placed in a team with others.
Admission is free, however, cash donations for Haiti will be accepted on behalf of the Red Cross in Douglas County.
International studies programs and centers from the University of Kansas devised the questions and are co-hosting the event. Participating units include the Center for Global and International Studies; the Center for East Asian Studies; the Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies; and the Kansas African Studies Center.
Registration will begin at 1:45 p.m. The questions will be given in a multiple choice format. The concessions stand at Liberty Hall will be open so participants can enjoy refreshments during the competition. Prizes, including gift certificates from area businesses, will be at stake for the winners.
This is the third of four CLAS ACTS events this academic year. The last event will be a performance and exploration of African-American music and writing on May 2. All CLAS ACTS events are free and open to the public.
CLAS ACTS is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, with special thanks to the Lawrence Arts Center and Liberty Hall. The goal of the series is to share the diverse wealth of the College faculty’s knowledge with the community in a manner that educates, entertains and engages the audience.
