Lawrence Arts Center Film Intensive (day 2)

The Lawrence Arts Center Film Intensive kicks off a summer of film and media studies at the Lawrence Arts Center. Classes for grades 4th - 8th, 9th - 12th and for adults begin with screenwriting in June followed by video production in July.

Cost is $30 for general public, $15 for students and seniors.

SCHEDULE

8:30 a.m. - coffee, snack

9 a.m. - Screenwriting - intro and into action. Kevin Willmott, Joel Feigenbaum & Ric Averill will lead off the day discussing the art of screenwriting and then will assign specific writing exercises - attendees will work on scenes with help from mentors including: Marlo Angell, Ric Averill, Tom Carmody, Joel Feigenbaum, Greg Hurd, Peter Jasso and Kevin Willmott

10:30 a.m. - Practical Magic - production sessions; tips and hints – Film Intensive attendees will break into four groups and rotate between the following sessions:

* VIDEO CAMERA TECHNIQUES – how to get great shots. Make the shutter speed, aperture, etc. work for you. Jim Jewell - KU Media Productions.
* SOUND - how to make it work - Chris Blunk - Through a Glass
* LIGHTING - on a shoestring and more - Matt Jacobson, University of Kansas Film & Media Dept.
* EDITING - making the cut - Marlo Angell, Via Dolorosa

12:30 p.m. - Lunch on your own (bring a sack lunch or visit beautiful Downtown Lawrence

1:30 p.m. - Acting and Directing Actors - bringing the work to life - act scenes, direct scenes learn to work with actors, basics and tricks of the trade - Jeanne Averill, actress, Joel Feigenbaum, producer, director, writer, and Heather Laird, Director, Casting Director

3 p.m. - Break

3:30 p.m. - COMMUNITY FILMMAKING - a panel - with the University of Kansas Film and Media Department & the Secondary School Teacher Summit - Meet the film makers of the evening's films and other featured filmmakers; pitch your ideas, learn about theirs - Kevin Willmott, Marlo Angell, Tom Carmody, Joel Feignebaum, Greg Hurd, Matt Jacobson and Jeff Tamblyn. Peter Jasso, Kansas Film Commission, Moderator.

5:30 p.m. - Reception and light food

7 p.m. - "MARIACHI ESTRELLA," a documentary by Marlo Angell and Peter Jasso

7:30 p.m. - talk back and response -plus possible "surprise" appearance by Mariachi band members

8 p.m. - "THE ONLY GOOD INDIAN," by Kevin Willmott and Tom Carmody - with talk back after
