11th Annual Earth Day Celebration

The celebration in the park features live music, food, vendors and children’s activities. Attendees are invited to learn from exhibits about waste reduction, recycling, composting, alternative fuels and vehicles, energy conservation, land preservation, wildlife and habitat preservation, and more.

The Douglas County Water Festival will also be held offering interactive, educational activities emphasizing the importance of clean water to families, the community and environment. The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department will host garden and tree identification tours.

The Lawrence Transit System will offer free rides on the T all day Saturday, April 16, providing the experience and benefits of public transportation on all fixed routes. A Japanese Community in Lawrence will have a donation campaign titled "Help Tomodachi in Japan" in Earth Day Celebration in Lawrence held on Saturday, April 16 from 11:30 am to 4:00 pm at South Park (Place No. 10) and Japanese Friendship Garden (both of the places are located near 11th and Massachusetts). At South Park, you will find Disaster photo display/ Recycling used books/ Calligraphy/ Fun items from Japan/ Sushi & cold drinks/ "Help Japan" wristbands, and more. At the Japanese Friendship Garden, you will be able to enjoy Face-painting/ Photo shoot in Kimono/ Japanese music. All donations will go to Japanese Red Cross Society via Consulate General of Japan. Please feel free to come and enjoy, and support the victims.
