Rock Benefit @ Record Bar (Westport) - Saturday, February 18th

Record Bar

On Saturday, February 18th, for the third year in a row, there will be a show at Record Bar in Westport benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This show is hosted by Missy Anderson, who has been doing fundraising work with the Society since 2006. She decided to get involved with the Society when she lost her grandmother, Louise Drewery, to Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma because she wanted to do what she could to help find a cure for blood cancers. Every year since her loss, she has formed a team with family & friends and participated in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk (, which is one of the many ways to help raise funds and awareness for blood cancer research. In 2009, Missy decided she wanted to do something more than just the walk and she pulled together two things that are a big presence in her life: music and blood cancer awareness…and the idea for this benefit show was born.

This year’s show will be even bigger than years past, with five local bands in the lineup. Show veterans Think Like Computers ( and Echoes From Airplanes ( will once again grace the stage. Added to the lineup this year is Vehicle (, Man Bear ( and Dream Wolf ( They have generously offered their talent for this show, allowing all proceeds to go to charity. And Missy isn’t the only one involved in this benefit that has been touched by Lymphoma. One of her close friends, the drummer from Think Like Computers, is a Hodgkin Lymphoma Survivor – he just celebrated 6 years of his cancer being in remission. They have all come together for this great cause, to help find a cure for blood cancer.

The show starts at 7:00pm and is 18+. Cover charge is $10.00 and there will be a raffle for door prizes (tickets will be $1.00 each) with all proceeds going to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Record Bar is located at 1020 Westport Road, Kansas City, MO 64111 (
