Social Media Club of Lawrence: Identity Theft, Passwords and Two-Factor Authentication

An estimated 13.1 million Americans were victims of identity theft last year. That's up more than 500,000 people from 2012. According to the Identity Fraud Study released last week by Javelin Strategy & Research, someone in this country becomes a victim every two seconds. Among the companies and services recently hacked: Target, Neiman Marcus, Snapchat, Yahoo! Mail.

The Javelin report urges consumers to opt-in to two-factor authentication wherever it is offered. If you are among the millions of consumers affected by recent data breaches, what security practices could you use to protect your digital privacy?

At this meeting, we will discuss identify theft, passwords and two-factor authentication. Please note, this meeting will be held at a new location, Sandbar Sub Shop, 745 New Hampshire, at 7:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 12.

Meetings of the Social Media Club of Lawrence are open to the public. If you have an interest in sharing your social media experiences, learning more about using social media and making face-to-face connections with other social media professionals, then this is the meeting for you.
