plus the staff is SO friendly at the granada. they'll sell you a coke for a dollar, and then wipe the sweat off their brow with their cool jagermeister forearm wristbands.

i had not been to neon in about two years, but this week it was more unbearable than i ever expected. anybody who goes has NO taste in music nor any taste in style. i am sorry for those who enjoy music who was popular 2-20 years ago. it is not enoyable by any standards.

Thank you onehazel. I was at neon tonight after about 2 or 3 years of going and I was very dissapointed. The scene was terrible, and the music was just as terrible, if not more. Also, why can't I go outside if I'm under 21? If they are trying to match Hot Luch, they have a long way to go. I advise anyone new to Lawrence not to go to Neon, and to wait until Hot Lunch resurrects itself in Kansas City at the Pistol. Please do not support Neon anymore. It is DEAD.

"Anyone new to Lawrence should come to NEON, the best dance party around!"

Ha! Hell yea you should.

This is great fun to read.
We must be doing something right to stir up this kind of reaction.

Thanks for all of your superb feedback, we always welcome any kind of feedback postive or negative...however, if you are not a fan of NEON, then we appreciate you giving us a shot but it's obviously not for you. Good luck with you and yours.

But there's over 400 other people who will disagree with what you say so "the show must go on".
We've been hated on and bitten since the beginning but we're still here. It's nothing new. NEON has existed before the hating and it continues to after it. Like I said, we must be doing something right.

Maybe, if Rhimarie and Onehazel would let go, open your minds and dance a little then maybe you might enjoy yourselves.
Or you can continue to be miserable and provoke this Anti-NEON/Pro-Hot Lunch bullshit drama that only exists in you and your friends heads. The choice is yours.

The Hot Lunch guys are good people who have excellent taste in music. As is Rico and DJ Soap and probably most other dj's that have had nights on Thursdays. That gives the people choices and choice is good! We should be thankful that there is more than one place to dance on a Thursday in Lawrence!

NEON is a fucking fun night. Drinks are cheap, ladies 21+ are FREE before 10pm, The Bottleneck staff rules and the dance floor is always packed. We play all kinds of shit that goes back even further than "2-20 years" and we also play all kinds of new stuff. We even play your requests (as long as we have the song). To me, It's the funnest night in Lawrence.
I look forward to DJing @ NEON every week.

"Anyone new to Lawrence should come to NEON, the best dance party around!"

see you on the .dancefloor

Hey everyone. How come people from hot lunch are always saying bad things about Neon. Do U hear anything bad about Hot lunch from Neon. What are they afraid of? Why is Hot Lunch moving to kc. Why they couldnt make in Lawrence or what? How can u be dissapointed when there are 300 plus people at the bottleneck. So Who's wrong about Neon, 2 people or 300 people.

I like both NEON and hot lunch music wise but I think I like the Bottleneck Venue better. You can actually get a drink in a reasonable amount of time. I just hate the Jackpot as a venue. Too effing small.

kinda funny that there's this hate from the NEON that went down on the 17th where ben fuller and myself guested on the decks. all the hate about music that was cool 2-20 years ago and how everything about the night sucked. how NEON is not cutting edge like the Hot Lunch boys...

MAD funny to me. Ben and I played almost 95% current shit while we were on the decks and managed to keep close to 200 bodies on the dance floor at all times. people hooting and hollering left and right. and so i hear from last night that there was crowdsurfing and air horns and complete debauchery. sounds like a shitty night to me.

so it's fair to say NEON is far from dead. seems like it's as alive now as ever. let it exist on the same playing field as everything else. it's claiming to be something it's not. it's just a great opportunity for kids in this area to cut loose once a week. that's all...and i bet that's all it will ever be.

I don't really know about the difference between Hotlunch and Neon but I know that when I used to go to Neon a couple of years ago I could definitely dance to what was playing. When I went to Hotlunch last month I could dance to what was playing. Last week when I went to Neon I COULD NOT dance to what was playing. I DO NOT WANT TO DANCE TO "I WEAR MY SUNGLASSES AT NIGHT" ...
EVER.

but jules...you obviously used to because 80's retro was the shit 2,3,4 even 5 years ago. now...a lot of kids want to hear new school bangers. off the wall chi chi fun tracks. a mixing bowl of good music if you will. if you would, and every one else acting hella bitchmade about neon right now, take off the blinders for 5 seconds and actually pay attention...you'd hear fine NEON selectors like DJ Konsept working in more current tracks, more mixtures of styles, introducing unknown music to the masses.

when you build something like the monster that NEON has become, you have to cater to the die hards...the folks that have been there since day one. but the NEON folks, along with almost everyone else in the world, have continued to grow in their appreciation for all types of music. they want to continually push the limits of the night. party music is a touchy animal and i don't give a fuck who you are...NEON has obviously been doing it right for a long time. have respect for the godfather night of this scene.

if you wish to change it...be constructive. if you don't like it...start your own fucking night. this pesimistic behavior is getting to me as you can see, but i'm just ready for some mufuckas to put up or shut up. i'm not seeing anyone puttin up in lawrence other than NEON...

end rant

oh please.
If never going to Neon again constitutes as "putting up" then I guess we are at an agreement?
Is it really that serious? I don't know from godfathers but all I'm saying is I dont want to dance to "I Wear My Sunglasses At Night" and you cannot tell me that song is an "off the wall chi chi fun track"
