The summer display in the Central Court features selections from the permanent collection, including works that evoke dreams and ideas of place, near and far.The works range in media from painting and watercolor to collage and drawing. Some will transport you to other places, such as the lyrical Blue Door (La Porte Bleue) by French artist Pierre Lesieur. Reflecting the artist's travels to North Africa, this painting evokes the sea or an open door in a way that suggests a dream. Other highlights include photo-realist paintings, a newly acquired abstraction by Jim Leedy, and a spirited work based on the play A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare, made in 2001 by Tim Rollins + K.O.S. (Kids of Survival) in collaboration with children from Salina, Kansas.Come let your mind wander and see what dreams you might recall, or what new perspective you might gain. This exhibition is organized for the Spencer Museum by Kris Ercums, curator of Asian art, and Susan Earle, curator of European and American art.
