Michael Hager, artist and adjunct art professor at Washburn University, will present Fundamental Images, Recent Work by Michael Hager in the Art & Design Gallery on KU's Lawrence campus September 14-26, 2008. The exhibit is sponsored by the Department of Art at the University of Kansas.A printmaker, Hager uses discarded objects as starting points for his images. The pictures refer to piles of debris or melted plastic. The most recent work involves the human body. Live models are covered with paint to make body prints. The final images are produced through a highly complicated intaglio process. These works are not produced in editions. Each piece is unique.Michael Hager was born in Freeport, Ill. He received is BFA from Washburn University in 1992. He earned his MFA from the University of Iowa in 1999. In 2001, he began teaching as an adjunct professor of art at Washburn University. Hager has worked as a gallery associate at the Alice C. Sabatini Gallery in the Shawnee County Public Library. Most recently, he began working as the exhibit preparatory at the Mulvane Art Museum.His work has been on exhibit at the Lawrence Public Library Gallery in Lawrence, Kan.; The Carter Art Center at Penn Valley Community College in Kansas City, Mo.; The P.E.O. Foundation Art Gallery at Cottey College in Nevada, Mo.; and at The Manhattan Art Center in Manhattan, Kan.He has also participated in juried shows, including The Biennial Art Faculty Exhibit in the Mulvane Art Museum in Topeka, Kan.; The Topeka Competition at the Sabatini Gallery in Topeka, Kan.; 2001 Mid-American Print Council Members' Exhibition in New Albany, Ind.; International Small Works on Paper in Asheville, NC..; 28th Bradley National Print and Drawing Exhibit in Peoria, Ill.; Road Trip: New Work from Iowa in Chicago, Ill.The Art & Design Gallery is located on the third floor of the Art and Design Building on the Lawrence campus.
