Signs of Life Gallery invites the public to take a closer look at the thematic and visual relationships between different types of artwork in its upcoming show, "Making Connections," on view from August 20 to October 16. Curated by David Cateforis, associate professor of art history at the University of Kansas, with the assistance of gallery director James Schaefer, "Making Connections" brings together over 40 works from local, national and international artists, and covers a variety of media, including oil, acrylic, charcoal and encaustic. The exhibition kicks off with a special opening reception 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. August 20 at the gallery, with live music from "Not Yet Quartet," a smooth jazz ensemble. Cateforis will then lead a special gallery talk and discussion 5 p.m. August 21 at Signs of Life, where visitors will be encouraged to examine and talk about the works on view, adding another perspective to the experience of the whole show -- the knowledge of an art historian and educator in a community setting.
