Note to self - never never never never never never never again go to Applebees.

A lizard head was found May 2 in a Santa Fe Chicken Salad prepared at Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar.

A complaint was filed with the health department by John Hellstein after his wife discovered the lizard head in a salad she ordered for lunch.

"Obviously, she was upset," said Hellstein, a University of Iowa professor of dentistry. "I don't expect she will be eating Santa Fe salads anytime soon."

On the plus side, it did test negative for salmonella.

People still eat at Applebee's? I'm stunned, frankly.

A poem from Langston:

Where the hell does Applebee's get off naming this dump in my honor? Shit.

Seriously, though... Applebee's is tasty, but they need not create dumbass gimmicks like naming their restaurant after Langston Hughes. What next? The William S. Burroughs KFC?

People who can't recognize the difference between good food and bad food might like to eat here.

While attending the University of Iowa, I lived 1 block from the Applebee's in Coralville, where the lizard head was found. I ate there almost weekly as it was a quick walk from my apartment, and continued to eat there after that incident. Regardless, the NorthSide Applebee's in Lawrence is a typical Applebee's, however I would state that the Northside had better food preperation and service than the Southside. It is very true that this is a 'neighborhood' bar and grill, as some of the wait staff has taken the time to recognize me when I enter the establishment. Favorites include the steak fajitas, chicken brocolli pasta alfredo, and the pick two, usually steak and ribs. The one complaint I have is that I've ordered a form of ribs on four occasions, and three times the ribs were burnt, and covered over in sauce (shame on the cook). However, the Brewtus beer is an enormous value for domestic or small brew, I only wish there was a wider selection of daught beer on hand.

Not all Applebees are alike. This I learned the hard way when we ate at the 6th Street Applebees.
The service was terrible. After being seated we waited over 15 minutes for our drink order. It took another 40 minutes for them to serve our dinner.

My daughtered ordered a steak medium. The steak was the size of a hockey puck and was rare...very rare. Her potatos were cold. My Chicken Fajita Roll up had a funky taste that just wasn't right. We asked the waiter to take the steak and potatos back with a request of medium and warm potatos. My daughters steak was returned charbroiled with the potatos still cold. I complained to management stating we have never encountered problems at the other Applebees. He took 2 buck off our meal. I was very disappointed in the service, food, and the discount for a meal we did not eat. NEVER NEVER again.
