This place was really very tasty. I had my doubts about it because it was completely empty when I got there, but once we tried the food, I was impressed.
The price is inexpensive compared to other mexican restaurants in town. It has excellent variety and is definitely a restaurant I will visit again!

A little more information on the food would have been nice.

Other than making the exceedingly generic categorization as a "Mexican" restaurant, this article fails to provide any useful information on Cielito Lindo's cuisine and so, we're no closer to the answer of the existential Mexican food question.....red or green?!

I went there for the first time last night and was pleasantly surprised. Lawrence has a definite lack of Sonoran-style Mexican food, and Cielito Lindo is stepping up to fill the void from what I've seen!

It was really good--had the flautas. The odd thing is the entrees don't seem to come with rice and beans--had to order those seperately. Good maragritas--strawberry ones, anyway. Didn't try the others.

While the ambience kinda sucks (way too brightly-lit, almost like a warehouse, and underdecorated for a restaurant), the food was awesome. Bean dip to die for, and the Pollo Fundito (chicken breasts with chorizo and gooey cheese sauce on top) was exquisito...if that's a spanish word.
Service was very good, very accommodating folks.

This place was HORRIBLE. The food was cold, the flavor was OFF and the appearance of the food on the plate looked to be something that my dog barfed up last night. One word to describe this establishment...GROSS.

Pretty good Mexican Chow. Lots to pick from on the menu. The service was excellent too. I'd go back there again

I was excited to have a new Mexi joint in my neighborhood. The food was NOT acceptable. In fact as my main man and I walked out after eating half of what was on our plates we realized the only reason we made it even half way through the plates is because we hate wasting food. I can get down with some grubbing mexican food,, and this truly was like cafeteria style ground meat and PROCESSED cheese. What? At least give me real cheese. Also, as great as it is to be waited on attentively, well, lets just say I felt the staff was hovering. I'll give 'em credit for the frosty mugs that came with our mexican beers, and thats as generous as I can be.

Great place. The food is very good, it leans more towards the subtle flavors vs. the typical Mexican places that try and wow you with heat from peppers and powerful spices. Dinner started with the normal chips and salsa. The salsa has a nice bite to it, just a little heat. The chip are a thick corn type. Enjoyed them. Again, the food is very good. Service was great. Kept our drinks full, checked on our table regularly. The quality and quantity of food is excellent for the price. The menu has a lot of choices. We will be dinning here again and often.

I've eaten at Cielito Lindo for lunch twice, and I plan to go back. The service is friendly. The food is tasty and fresh and it comes to my table quickly. They have plenty of tables, so there is no problem getting seated and served without delay. I strongly recommend it for the lunch hour.

The service was great. They were quick to refill drinks. The menu was large with lots of options. Unfortunately, they do not serve horchata or Jarritos soda. The chips and salsa are both good and they seem like they are made in house. We started with the chorizo quesadilla which was not greasy and had a wonderful cheese inside. We also had the chilaquiles which were as close to authentic as you can get in Lawrence. We also had chiles rellenos which were ok. Their rice is good, but the refried beans are forgettable. We will definitely go back.

One of the worst all-around experiences I've had eating out in quite awhile. A total waste of time and money.

Cielito Lindo has at last given us some Mexican food that tastes freshly prepared. I've been there three times now, and each time I am impressed with the quality of their ingredients. It is like home cooking. The service can't be beat.

i like cielito lindo. the service is a little quirky, but i always get what i asked for. the chips and salsa are good. the guac is tasty. the food is served quickly, hot and fresh. the menu has a good variety to sample, and states clearly on the back that everything is served *mild* unless you request otherwise.

As someone who prefers more "authentic" mexican, I highly recommend Cielito Lindo!
The prices are unbeatable for a great downtown location, the service is exceedingly pleasant and prompt, and the food is truly delicious.
I'm a Mexican food connosieur, and this is the best in town, as far as I'm concerned!

Hard to find...it's right next to the Newhampshire St. Bistro. But great food. Owner is always there. He takes pride and it shows.

I have eaten in many places in Mexico and at every major Mexican restaurant in Lawrence. For authenticity, service, price, quality and quantity, Celito Lindo is currently the best in town. Unlike some other local establishments where the order may be up for quite some time before it is actually served, the fajitas (my personal favorite) always arrive sizzling. The combination fajita plate includes a generous portion of shrimp (9-10 vs 4 or 5 elsewhere) and definitely is not bland. The refried beans and frozen margaritas are also better than elsewhere. The service was fast and competant and I personally appreciated the extra attention we received. I am looking forward to warmer weather so we can eat outside in their courtyard. I wholeheartedly endorse Celito Lindo as one of the best kept Mexican restaurant secrets in town.

This place was AMAZING!!! I went there for a girl's night out and all 6 of us are now in love with this place. Great food...try the fajita nachos. and thursdays they have $10 margarita pitchers and they are generous with the tequila. Also the staff wasn't hovering...our guy was friendly and helpful.

First of all when I ordered coke it didn't taste like coke. I tried someone elses and it didn't taste like coke either. I found a really long hair in my sancho burrito and a few cockroaches in the bathroom. I 've been to this resturant two times before and never had any issues. I don't think that I will be going back anytime soon, maybe not even at all.

Born and raised only an hour away from the U.S. / Mexico border in South Texas, I can say that I've eaten at some of the best Mexican and Tex-Mex joints in the country. Cielito Lindo is right up there with the best of them. The food is great, the service is great, everything about the place is great. We've got some haters here that say the food is no good... but their idea of Mexican food is probably Taco Bell or Taco Johns. If you've ever eaten at Mi Tierra in San Antonio or Las Brasas in Brownsville, TX, you'll know that Cielito Lindo is right up there with the best!

I've only had one dish from here, but it IS AMAZING every time: the Vegetarian Fajitas. Delishious and quite a generous serving. I can eat half and be stuffed and take home the rest for a whole nother meal. Only $7!
So great value.
I gave the service a 10 because the last time I went there is was 5 minutes before close and it was pretty slow but they were more than happy to serve us.
Outdoor patio is nice when it's nice out. In anycase just try the dish. It's great.

I love this place. Let me tell you, this is the best restaurant in town. I went with about 8 of my friends for dinner here (birthday) and everything was fabulous. Beers were $2, margs were $2 and the pollo fundido was amazing. I went here for lunch, and it was served in about 5 minutes. I give this place two thumbs up. If one half of Siskel and Ebert wasn't dead, they would give two thumbs up.
