NOW HIRING: lawrence.com graphic designer: Award-winning journalism outfit seeks visionary graphic designer.
You: kind, confident, creative sort with a passion for graphic art, including some combination of the following characteristics ...
• a sincere, motivated interest in the people and cultures of Lawrence, Kansas;
• graphic design vision rooted in an appreciation for current popular aesthetics and those styles' predecessors;
• ability to both work within an existing framework as well as confidence to implement your own vision;
• experience with a wide variety of typefaces and layout schemes;
• sufficient adeptness at InDesign to meet weekly layout deadlines;
• sufficient familiarity with Photoshop CS to prepare images for press production on deadline (training for color correcting for our production process will be provided);
• ability to coordinate and manage art assignments;
• familiarity with online graphic presentation and standards;
• widely read and familiar with pop culture and current events;
• an INVIGORATING drive to be better than “competing” journalism outfits — save, of course, your fellow lawrence.comrads whom you tend to and nurture (tough-love-style) as if they were sprung from your very loins.
• and, perhaps most importantly, a healthy sense of humor and grateful attitude towards life that yields a forgiving, harmonious tendency towards your neighbor.
We offer great benefits package including a 401k, health and dental, plus employee discounts on your newspaper, cable, internet and telephone services. Pre-employment drug screen and physical required. EOE. BYOB. EIEIO.
If you think your interests and strengths are compatible with what we're looking for, please send samples of your work to homies@lawrence.com. When we call to set up an interview, be ready to take a brief test on InDesign (or Quark). Thanks in advance for your sincere consideration.
