Speed Racer
Rating: PG
Stars (out of 4): ***
Length: 2 hours, 10 minutes
Synopsis: Brothers Andy and Larry Wachowski ("The Matrix") have rewritten the laws of nature to create the color palette for this adaptation of the 1960s Japanese anime television series. It's a movie so bright you'll have to wear shades. And that's a good thing, because something needs to hide the laborious storyline.

This reimagining of the superhero as a loathesome, foul-mouthed, often inept beast can't even be saved by Will Smith. For while, it seems as if the improbable storyline will somehow work. But then it devolves into the terrible movie you expect. And given the sailor-caliber swearing, how it earned a PG-13 rating is a mystery. Showtimes, review and more. Watch trailer.
