Dog walk to benefit cancer awareness

The second "Walk Your Dog for Breast Cancer Awareness" will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at South Park, 12th and Massachusetts streets.

The money raised from this event benefits Breast Cancer Action, a local fund-raising organization.

Breast Cancer Action helps women who cannot afford mammograms, aids public education, provides support to families who are undergoing treatment for breast cancer and promotes awareness.

The event features one-mile and three-mile dog walks, live music featuring the Junk Yard Jazz Band and Embius Trio, pet professionals, refreshments and prizes for the highest sponsorships and donations.

The registration fee is $18 and includes snacks for the dogs and food for their owners. Registration forms are available at the Jazzhaus, G. Williker's, Savannah and Lawrence pet stores. Mail the registration form to P.O. Box 585, Lawrence, Kan. 66044.

Spinach and Trails Fest set for this weekend

Lenexa � The Lenexa Spinach and Trails Fest will be Saturday at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park, 87th Street and Lackman Road.

The festival, which starts at 9 a.m., also will feature an arts and crafts fair, children's activities, Civil War displays, American Indian performances and prairie schooner rides.
