Family event sparks children's imaginations
Kansas City, Mo. Â Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, 4420 Warwick Blvd., will present a family event in conjunction with its "Against Design" exhibition. The event will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Children will have an opportunity to compose music on a computer, build furniture from cardboard and create fashions from paper. Participants will show off their creations during a parade at 3 p.m.
The family event is free and open to the public.
"Against Design," which examines various interpretations of contemporary design, runs through Sept. 2. Artists in the show include Pae White and Jorge Pardo.
Willmott to speak at Micheaux festival
Gregory, S.D. Â A Lawrence filmmaker is among the presenters at the Sixth Annual Oscar Micheaux Film Festival Wednesday through Aug. 12. in Gregory.
Kevin Willmott will present "Challenges of Independent Filmmakers," and his film "Ninth Street," starring Martin Sheen, will be screened at 3 p.m. Friday.
The festival will feature a number of presenters on Micheaux's life, career and affect on subsequent filmmakers. Screenings of Micheaux's "Lying Lips," "Murder in Harlem" and "Ten Minutes to Live" as well as "Danny Glover Portrays Oscar Micheaux."
