Comedian Drew Carey undergoes procedure for blocked artery

Comedian Drew Carey, the portly star of ABC-TV's "The Drew Carey Show," underwent a successful procedure Friday to unblock a coronary artery after experiencing chest pains the day before, his publicist said.

Carey, 43, was admitted to St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, Calif., where doctors also installed a stent to keep the artery open. The procedure was similar to the one Vice President Dick Cheney underwent in March. He was released Saturday.

"He's doing great," Carey's publicist, Christina Papadopoulos, said. "He's happy to be home."

She said Carey's doctor expects that he'll be able to return to work next week.

Delay takes some 'Glitter' off of Mariah's soundtrack

First the opening date of Mariah Carey's movie was postponed; now the release of her soundtrack has been delayed.

"Glitter" was expected to hit stores on Aug. 21, but Virgin Records now plans to release the soundtrack Sept. 11.

The movie "Glitter," starring Carey as an aspiring pop star, was to open nationwide on Aug. 31, but 20th Century Fox moved it this week to Sept. 21.

Both projects were postponed after the 31-year-old Grammy winner suffered an emotional breakdown last month. Carey recently checked out of a Connecticut clinic where she received treatment. Her spokeswoman, Cindi Berger, said the singer is under a doctor's care.

"Mariah is looking forward to being able to participate in both her album and movie projects, and we are hopeful that this new soundtrack release date will allow her to do so," Virgin vice chairman Nancy Berry said in a statement Thursday.

'P. Diddy' avoids arrest for illegal lawn-mowing

Sean "P. Diddy" Combs beat the rap last week when he agreed to stop some illicit lawn-mowing.

Lawyers for Combs persuaded a judge Friday to refrain from slapping Combs with an arrest warrant for allegedly defying town environmental codes. The hip-hop mogul was accused of mowing sea-grass and other protected vegetation at his $2.5 million waterfront home in East Hampton, Long Island.

Town Justice Roger Walker, upset that Combs appeared to be setting himself above the law, threatened to issue an warrant on Monday if Combs failed to show up in court to respond to the charges.

Combs has promised to restore the vegetation at a cost of more than $70,000.

Ante paid for Vegas stunt

A Kentucky woman has settled a lawsuit alleging that Dennis Rodman attacked her when she tried to take his picture in the lobby of a Las Vegas Strip hotel-casino.

Rebecca Mardis of Laurel County, Ky., alleged that the former basketball star slammed her camera to the floor and lifted her into the air during the January 1999 encounter in the lobby of the MGM Grand.

Mardis said Rodman laughed at her fright. Her lawsuit sought $1 million. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
