Drew Barrymore's house burns

Actress Drew Barrymore and her comedian fiance Tom Green were awakened by their dog early Sunday in time to escape a fire that gutted their Los Angeles home.

Both escaped injury.

"We're great," Barrymore, a star of "Charlie's Angels," told reporters at the scene.

"Other than the fact that the home burned down," Green added as they drove away.

Their dog, Flossie, woke them up around 3:30 a.m. when she barked and "literally banged on their bedroom door," said Eddie Michaels, Barrymore's spokesman.

"Flossie was really the main alert that there was a fire," Michaels said.

It took firefighters about an hour to douse the flames, Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells said.

Firefighters estimated damage at $700,000 in the two-story, 3,500-square-foot home north of Beverly Hills. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Baby talk

New "Live with Regis and Kelly" co-host Kelly Ripa said she'll talk just as incessantly about her children as her predecessor, Kathie Lee Gifford, once did.

"If you're a mother and you don't talk about your children, there is something very wrong with you," Ripa says in the Feb. 24 TV Guide.

Ripa, who continues to play Hayley Santos on "All My Children," beat out "Ally McBeal's" Jane Krakowski, Cybill Shepherd, Bernadette Peters and CNBC's Maria Bartiromo for the coveted job.

Regis Philbin was said to prefer Krakowski or actress Lisa Rinna over Ripa, but he eventually warmed to her cheekier style.

Pat Boone sides with Eminem

Rapper Eminem has his share of detractors but musician Pat Boone is offering some support.

The veteran singer-songwriter may not like the content of Eminem's music, but he said that he respects freedom of expression.

"I don't agree with his lyrics, their content or tone. I'm totally opposed to violence, racism and homophobia, but I vigorously feel that we must respect an individual's right to speak his mind, especially when it comes to all forms of art," Boone said Friday.

Other artists have come under fire for either supporting Eminem or, in the case of Elton John, agreeing to perform with him at Wednesday's Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.
