NBC weatherman sidelined
Al Roker will be under the weather for a little while. The weatherman on NBC's "Today" show is having his left knee replaced on Thursday and will be off the air until at least the start of July. "I had a bad car accident 15 years ago and my upper leg drove into the lower leg, and there are pins and screws and a plate it's a mess," Roker told USA Today.
The 46-year-old said "Today" show cameras will follow him afterward as he goes through physical therapy for an upcoming story on the operation.
Back for another 'Spin'
Michael J. Fox is taking another spin on "Spin City," if only briefly.
Fox said he'll return to the ABC sitcom in a special appearance next season. The actor, who turns 40 on Saturday, left his starring role on the show last year to focus his time on Parkinson's research. He revealed in 1998 that he suffers from the disease. "Sometimes I feel great, but I don't look great," Fox told "Access Hollywood" Monday night. "Sometimes I look great, but don't feel great."
'Frasier' star dumps Texas talk
Peri Gilpin, who plays radio producer Roz Doyle on the NBC sitcom "Frasier," says she worked hard to lose an "unintelligible" childhood accent she developed while growing up in Texas.
It was a kind of rhythmic slang with her friends, Gilpin said. "I can't even do it anymore. We said our Rs real hard. It was almost like Texan Valley Girls!"
Gilpin studied at the University of Texas at Austin and at the British-American Academy in London. For a brief time she was a makeup artist, but soon returned to honing her acting skills in repertory theater.
"I really love everything about Roz," the 40-year-old actress said. "I love that she gets to say what everyone is thinking and she gets away with it because she's smart."
Rapper's child support questioned
Model Kim Porter has asked a court to declare that Sean "P. Diddy" Combs is the father of her youngest child and to award her more child support than he currently pays.
Porter, 30, says that although Combs, 31, admits paternity of Christian Casey Combs, 3, she wants Manhattan Family Court to formally declare that the rap mogul is the father and give her as much child support as allowed by law.
This means 17 percent of Combs' adjusted gross income, plus money for medical expenses, a live-in nanny, after-school programs, summer camp, tutors, sports programs and private-school tuition and expenses.
P. Diddy the head of Bad Boy Entertainment and his own clothing line, Sean John reportedly pays a mother of another child $5,000 a month in child support.
