Knee-deep in Mud Creek, Grant School students use a seine to look for macroinvertibrates during a Tuesday afternoon field trip. The students are taking part in the Kaw Valley Heritage Alliance's Streamlink program, which is helping students from schools all over northeast Kansas to document conditions of waterways in the Kansas River Valley. Students are making visual assessments, chemical assessments, doing a field journal and looking for macroinvertibrates during two annual trips to Mud Creek, just north of the Lawrence Municipal Airport. Holding the seine at bottom is Jacy Wolfe, an environmental technologist for Kansas Fish and Wildlife. Assisting from left are Lou Schmitt, Michael Westheffer, and Alex McKee, all students at Grant School.
